Overview
Apples of Gold is a Bible reading tracker. You can use it without an account, and then everything stays on your device. If you sign in to use Reading Groups, the app stores a small amount of data online so your group can work. The app also sends anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Without an Account
If you don't sign in, the only data that leaves your device is the anonymous usage statistics described below, and you can turn those off. Your reading plans, progress, reading history, reflections, homestead, and reminder settings are stored only on your device. They are deleted when you delete the app.
Backups you make with Export Backup are files you save yourself. We never receive them.
Reading Groups (Optional Sign-In)
Reading Groups need Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. When you sign in and use groups, we store:
- Account details: an account ID, plus the email address and name that Apple or Google provide. If you use Hide My Email, we only see Apple's relay address.
- Your nickname: by default it's your first name. You can change it, and other members of your groups see it.
- Group information: names of groups you create or join, invite codes, and any reading plan your group shares, including a custom plan.
- Reading progress you choose to share: if you turn on Share progress, your group sees whether you read today and how far you are in the shared plan. You can turn this off at any time.
- Gifts and the online homestead: the gifts you send and receive, and the reading days and homestead actions used to verify them.
Only members of a group can see that group's name, nicknames, and shared progress. Your reflections are never uploaded. When you share a reflection card, it goes only where you send it with the share sheet.
This data is stored with Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Functions), which processes it for us to run the service.
Usage Statistics
To learn which features people use and where the app can improve, Apples of Gold sends anonymous usage events to Google Analytics for Firebase. For example: an onboarding screen was reached, a day was marked read, a plan was finished, or sign-in failed. Events include only simple details, such as which built-in plan was read (custom plans are just labeled “custom”) and whether a note was added, never what it says. Google Analytics also records standard app information such as app version, device model, operating system, approximate country, and sessions.
Usage statistics never include your reflections or notes, passages, the names of your custom plans or groups, invite codes, your name, your email, or your account ID. We don't collect your device's advertising identifier, and the data isn't used for advertising or shared with advertisers.
Usage statistics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Usage Stats, and the app then stops sending them.
Weather
If you're signed in and allow location access, the homestead shows your local weather. Your approximate location (to about 3 km) is sent to Apple Weather to get the forecast. We don't store it on our servers.
Notifications
Daily reminders are scheduled on your device. No data is sent anywhere to deliver them.
Deleting Your Data
In Reading Groups → Account → Delete account, you can delete your account at any time. This deletes your account and the groups you own. It also removes your membership, shared progress, and gift data from other groups. Data stored only on your device stays there until you delete the app.
Children's Privacy
Apples of Gold is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll post the update here with a new "Last updated" date.
